Guess What I'm Getting????

My best friend called me today and said for my birthday she decided what she is getting me and I have no say in the matter...

A PUPPY!!!!!

I went looking today but didn't find one I liked.  I'm going again tomorrow.  I guess if I can't have a man I can have a wo-man's best friend.  I'll keep you posted on my puppy.

Any suggestions for a small, playful dog that is good with kids?

  1. Tami, consider going to a rescue or shelter rather than purchasing one. There are plenty of cute pups around.

Also, you might want to consider a young dog (1-3 years old) who is an owner giveup. These days a lot of people are having to give up their beloved pets for financial reasons, and these are normally really sweet dogs who have been kindly treated. Also, you can find out for sure if the dog is good with kids that way. Finally, beagles are nice small dogs who are typically good with kids. The problems -- they can be really greedy and they are vocal. Good luck!

  3. Aww, how wonderful! We have a puppy, a mini-schnauzer. He's a cute handful. If you don't go to the rescue shelter, be sure that the pup comes from a good breeder or petshop that doesn't buy from puppy mills. The cruelty to those poor breeding females is just appalling. What a sweet thing for your friend to do. By the way, it looks like you will also be getting a pair of crystal earrings! LOLOL!

  4. Of course I'm getting one from a shelter or rescue. I've looked for two days but didn't find one. Well, I did find one I like in another county and they told me since I didn't live in that county if a resident wanted it they would bump me. WTF? I was quite pissed. I won't be leaving DC to look again. She was so cute, a toy terrier. I'll end up with something small like a toy terrier, pomeranian, chiuaua(spelling), etc. but not a yappy one. There was a basset hound today that was yapping up a storm...yuck. I also so a poodle that was a bully. lol I really wanted the baby terrier though. oh well.

  5. We have a mini schnauzer and he is a wonderful character. His parents are adorable - extremely friendly and loyal.

  6. I'm going to second the suggestion of an older dog. Puppies are highly overrated and chew up everything in sight. If you look at an older dog you will be able to get some idea of its personality.

  7. Oh, from the post title I immediately thought "Oh, she's getting new boobs! Good for her!"

But a puppy can be so good too! you'll end up being more of a man magnet! Puppies are a nightmare to care for though, I must say, then all that cuteness is over. I say adopt a love that needs you in their middle age.
